Stargazing: Jupiter’s Opposition

Stargazing: Jupiter’s Opposition
9–11:30 pm

We’re used to looking for signs of spring in the ground, but tonight we encourage you to look up to the skies. As the Earth hurtles through the solar system, this month it will fly directly between Jupiter and the sun. The giant planet will be fully illuminated by the sun, making it brighter than any other time of the year. Make an evening of this astronomical event and celebrate our mysterious solar system with other novice and experienced stargazers alike. Pack a picnic or swing by the Beer Garden for a late night snack. No alcohol, pets, candles taller than 12 inches, or knives permitted.

Members of the Indiana Astronomical Society will be onsite, providing telescopes and stargazing tips. Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars or telescopes, but telescopes must be easily carried from the parking lot to the Lilly Allée.
